Neela — sapphire blue
The name "Neela" means sapphire blue in Sanskrit and princess in Punjabi, and holds a similar meaning of navy blue in Persian and Arabic. Our primary colours of blue and white link visually with the island and ocean palettes — the blue representing calm and tranquillity.
Much of Zanzibar's history and heritage is steeped in the origins of Islamic religion and culture, blended for centuries with East African cultures such as Swahili. Inspired by this fusion, The Neela icon incorporates the arches prominent in the island's architecture — a representation of a window to the world.
